Storms cause havoc in Poland

Storms have caused local flooding, ripped roofs off buildings and disrupted power supplies in Poland. Firefighters were called out 1,100 times. Some 12,000 households were left without electricity at one point after fierce winds damaged power lines on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Gusts damaged roofs on 33 buildings across the country, including 17 residential buildings, firefighters said.

Around 50 properties and 15 hectares of land were flooded after a tributary of the Vistula River spilled over its banks in Okleśna, southern Poland, fire brigade spokesman Paweł Frątczak said on Wednesday morning.
