Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said on Tuesday that Poland plans to buy thousands of drones “so that we will able to defend ourselves against every threat”, Poland Radio reports
Macierewicz said the drones would be used by Poland’s planned new territorial defence forces (paramilitary citizen defence) as well as other military units.
He was speaking in Zielonka, near Warsaw, where he attended a show with drones at the Military Institute of Armaments Technology.
Macierewicz did not specify how many of the machines the defence ministry would buy. He said he hoped that thanks to the drones “our combat capabilities will be such that we will able to defend ourselves against every threat.”
It is somewhat strange as drones generally is very weak as a defence measure. Macierewicz is least popular minister in Poland, polls indicate.
