59 percent of respondents to a February survey by the CBOS pollster expressed fear of contracting coronavirus, while 40 percent said they had no such fear. The percentage of those fearing coronavirus infection was 7 percentage points (pps) down compared to the January survey.

Of the 59 percent of those afraid of catching the disease, 20 percent were “very” afraid and 39 percent were “slightly” afraid. Fear of contracting the disease rises with age. 36 percent of young respondents, up to 35 years of age, had such a fear, in contrast to 74 percent of people aged 55 years and older.

Compared to the January survey, assessment of the government’s handling of the fight against COVID-19 has slightly worsened. In February, 46 percent of respondents were satisfied with the government’s response, 1 pp lower than in the previous poll, with 48 percent (up 3 pps) holding the opposite view.

CBOS conducted the survey on February 1-11, 2021, in a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of 1,179 adult residents of Poland.
