The US-based financial services firm Visa plans to open a global technology and product hub in Poland, the company announced on Tuesday.

A Visa spokesman said the hub, which will employ up to 1,500 technology specialists over the next few years, will be the first of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe.

The centre will focus on developing new products and innovations with the help of local specialists, Visa said. The company added that Poland is increasingly perceived as a source of highly-skilled IT personnel.

Commenting on the project, Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish prime minister, said the project will help raise Poland’s profile as a new technology investment location.

“It is very good news that Visa with its unique… experience and know-how has chosen our country from among other potential sites,” Morawiecki said.

“This will build Poland’s position as the leading location for investment in new technology,” he added.
