The Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have expressed concerns over reports that a Russian missile could have hit Polish territory and declared support for Warsaw.

“My condolences to our Polish brothers in arms. Criminal Russian regime fired missiles which target not only Ukrainian civilians but also landed on NATO territory in Poland. Latvia fully stands with Polish friends and condemns this crime,” Latvia’s deputy PM, Artis Pabriks, tweeted on Tuesday evening.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda wrote on Twitter: “Keeping a close contact with our Polish friends. Lithuania stands in strong solidarity with Poland. Every inch of #NATO territory must be defended!”

The Estonian foreign ministry wrote on Twitter that the news from Poland was very concerning and that “Estonia is ready to defend every inch of NATO territory.”

“Today’s massive missile attacks by the Russian army on Ukraine clearly show that Russia wants to further terrorize its people and destroy the country,” the Czech PM, Petr Fiala, tweeted. “If Poland confirms that the missiles also hit its territory, this will be a further escalation by Russia. We stand firmly behind our EU and NATO ally.”

Slovak PM Eduard Heger wrote: “Slovakia is very concerned about recent news on explosions in Polish town #Przewodow. I’ve contacted Polish PM @MorawieckiM to express our #solidarity and full #support. We will consult #Poland and other allies about the situation.”
