Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara was in inspired form for FC Copenhagen’s in the Champions League match against Manchester City on Tuesday. The Pole saved a penalty kick and played a huge part in gaining his team an unexpected draw against the English champions.
From the outset the Pole had his hand full, blocking a shot by Julian Alvarez. He went on to also repel efforts by Kevin De Bruyne or Joao Cancelo.
The Copenhagen team stood firm to take a goalless draw and Kamil Grabara was key, a particularly pivotal moment was his save from Riyad Mahrez’s penalty.
In the previous clash between the two teams at the Etihad, the Pole was also among the best performers on the pitch, making a total of 11 saves, despite conceding five to the English champions.

Grabara’s recent form has seen him enter the reckoning for a place on the plane to Qatar for the upcoming World Cup in November. Grabara has a single cap to his name and appears to be behind fellow keepers Szczęsny, Skorupski. He is likely to be battling for the third and final goalkeeping spot with Spezia’s Drągowski in coach Czesław Michniewicz’s squad.

Tuesday evening’s Champions League was less fruitful for some of Poland’s key squad members. Wojciech Szczęsny’s Juventus lost 2:0 to the Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa and Polish forward Arkadiusz Milik missed the Turin giants’ best chance of the match.
Wednesday evening will see some of Poland’s top talent in action, with Piotr Zielinski’s in-form-Napoli taking on Dutch champions Ajax and Robert Lewandowski’s Barcelona facing a vital match at home to Inter Milan.
