Who will welcome Russian deserters
The partial military mobilisation announced by Russian leader Vladimir Putin has forced thousands of people to flee the country for fear of being drafted. Europe is divided on whether it should accept such people into their countries, mostly due to security concerns.

Referenda
Sham referendums are underway in four Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine. Russia’s intention is to perform a predetermined vote to carry out illegal land grabs. Our very own Don Arleth brings us the report straight from Ukraine.

Polish activist released
The president of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Angelika Borys, has been released from prison. Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka has claimed credit for issuing the decision of her release.

Italy’s conservative future
In Italy, the pre-election polls show that the coalition of right-wing parties is the most likely to win the snap parliamentary elections on Sunday. The conservatives’ victory would be the first in decades, with promises of addressing the severe economic and energy crises wooing many voters, although the foreign policy implications of a right-wing government could be problematic.

Mass protests over death of Amini
The death of Mahsa Amini in Iranian police custody has sparked nationwide and global protests over the issue of human rights. The social unrest is continuing and demonstrations are becoming increasingly violent, with brave Iranian women taking a stand against the oppressive theocracy.

NASA vs asteroid
NASA is soon to complete its DART mission, an operation where a spacecraft is to knock an asteroid off its course. The man-made device is predicted to hit the designated target on September 26th.

Farewell, Roger Federer
One of the most successful tennis players of all time, Roger Federer, has concluded his professional career. Teaming up with his long-time rival Rafael Nadal, he regrettably faced defeat in a doubles match at the Laver Cup. Nevertheless, Federer’s legendary career will be remembered for years to come.
