Business Arena 10.08

On Wednesday’s episode, our host Ashim Kumar started the show with our main stories which were: the economic causes of armed conflicts and US President Joe Biden signing The Chip Act to compete with China.

Armed conflicts are complex situations emerging out of a constellation of conditions (political, economic, historical and psychological) and cannot be usually explained by reference to a single cause.

Economic motivations refer to all those material considerations and incentives that prompt collectivities to resort to the use of force for the attainment of their objectives. Our guest was Kacper Kita, columnist at nlad.pl.

Also on the programme:

President Biden signed the CHIPS Act to boost US chipmakers. The law, providing USD 52 billion in subsidies to US semiconductor manufacturers, aims to reduce US dependence on Taiwan and South Korea for critical technologies.

Among other topics we looked at were:

Russian airlines, including state-controlled Aeroflot, are stripping jetliners to secure spare parts they can no longer buy abroad because of Western sanctions.

The US Justice Department is preparing to sue Google as soon as next month, capping years of work to build a case that the Alphabet Inc. unit illegally dominates the digital advertising market.
