Putin survived assassination attempt in March: German daily

A “completely failed assassination attempt against Kremlin tyrant Vladimir Putin” took place in March, the German bild.de tabloid website reported on Tuesday, citing information from Ukrainian military intelligence.

As the website noted, the Russian leader “has been bringing death and suffering to Ukraine for months, threatening the whole world, and apparently living in constant fear for his own life.” According to media reports, Vladimir Putin, 69, has already survived five assassination attempts, the last of which took place in March, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Bild” cited the words of Ukraine’s military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov, who confirmed in an interview with the Ukrainian newspaper Pravda that “Putin was attacked.” As the official pointed out, “the attempt was absolutely unsuccessful, but it actually took place – it was about two months ago.”

As the British dailies “The Telegraph” and “The Sun” report, the already cautious Russian strongman has taken even more care with his security after the failed attack, including being accompanied by snipers.

Various reports indicate that , in order to eliminate the danger of poisoning, Vladimir Putin has his food tested by tasters before eating. He also reportedly wears special gloves to protect himself from contacting poisons.

Putin himself knows his weapons best: political opponents such as Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, currently imprisoned, barely avoided death from a Kremlin-ordered poison attack. Mr Navalny, who came into contact with the neurotoxin Novichok in August 2020, had to recover for several weeks after the attack in Berlin’s clinic,” the website noted.

As the daily added, the latest assassination attempt was the fifth one, following previous aims to kill him, such as one in 2002 during his visit to Azerbaijan.

Putin ‘seriously ill’

“In addition to opponents trying to kill him, Putin is apparently also struggling with his own health,” the daily wrote. “His medical records are kept secret.”

As added, “a team of Russian investigative journalists ‘Project’ recently revealed ‘a long list of illnesses and injuries, some of which are serious’, with which the Russian leader is said to be struggling.”
