Covid is not gone, Polish health minister warns

Despite Poland switching to a lower level of epidemic emergency from Monday, society should remember that the coronavirus has not gone away and could return in the autumn, the health minister has said.

“From today we no longer have the state of epidemic in Poland, only the state of epidemic alert,” Adam Niedzielski tweeted on Monday.

“The number of cases and hospitalisations is going down,” he also said. “We have vaccines and drugs and the herd immunity is at about 95 percent.

“However, let’s remember that Covid-19 has not disappeared and is staying with us,” Niedzielski warned.

The state of epidemic was in force in Poland from March 20, 2020 until May 15, 2022. The current state of epidemic alert involves far fewer restrictions.
