Poland is ready to help transport Poles currently in western Ukraine to Poland if the fighting in Ukraine escalates, Poland’s prime minister said on Friday.

Mateusz Morawiecki told a press conference in the south-western Polish city of Wroclaw that his government was prepared to organise special transports for Poles wishing to return home if Ukraine’s conflict with Russia got worse.

“We have already prepared numerous ways to welcome our countrymen who are fleeing Ukraine, which will enable them to have a normal life in Poland,” Morawiecki said.

He added that his government was abreast of the situation of Poles in Ukraine thanks to reports by Polish consulates in the country and the work of other government agencies.

He also said that Polish clinics were currently treating wounded Ukrainian soldiers.
