About 3,500 Ukrainian teachers have applied for jobs at Polish schools so far, the education minister has said.

The Polish education system has been overwhelmed by thousands of Ukrainian schools students. Despite small cultural differences, the refugees have to adapt to the Polish system, preferably with the aid of Ukrainian teachers.

“Some 3,500 teachers have filled in the form so far, voicing their willingness… to take care of Ukrainian children in the Polish or Ukrainian system,” Przemysław Czarnek said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Czarnek said 150,000 Ukrainian children are already attending Polish schools.

“The vast majority of them are children registered at primary schools, more than 20,000 are kindergarten children and the rest are registered in secondary education schools,” the minister said.

However, most Ukrainian children that have crossed the Polish border since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 have not been registered at Polish schools yet, with some of them continuing to attend their Ukrainian schools online, according to the minister.
