Polish president asks Biden to speed up military purchases

The main topic of talks with US president Joe Biden was the security of Poland and aid to Ukraine, as well as the cooperation with the US and what forms it may take, said President Andrzej Duda during the press conference after meeting with his American counterpart.

“What matters the most is that the Article 5 of NATO treaty about collective defense is, in all circumstances, one hundred percent binding and guarantees the security of every alliance’s country. I think that for us, Poles, in the time of Russia’s aggressive policy, it is a vital issue,” said the president.

“I asked president Biden to accelerate the military purchases that are being implemented,” said president Duda, mentioning the Patriot, HIMARS missile systems, F-35 fighters and M1A2 Abrams tanks, which are to strengthen the country’s security.

Furthermore, the president mentioned economic and energy cooperation as another factor in strengthening mutual ties, which to the significant degree contributes to Poland’s security.

Andrzej Duda also thanked all those who help Ukrainian refugees: officers, volunteers, and authorities.

“I would like to thank my compatriots who accept refugees, often sacrificing private financial resources. This is appreciated not only by us, but also by the international community, it is a show of a big heart,” he stated.
