Morawiecki, Blinken say sanctions on Russia must be tight

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said after talks with visiting US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that they both agreed sanctions on Russia had to be kept tight, and that no Russian banks should be exempt from exclusion from the SWIFT system.

Morawiecki told a Saturday press briefing that the sanctions must be “crushing, strongly hitting Vladimir Putin’s war machine” and that “the asset freezing should be as wide as possible.”

Currently, the SWIFT system does not exclude, inter alia, Russia’s Gazprombank and Sberbank.
