Some 700 children aged 12-15 received Covid-19 booster jabs on Friday morning, the day the booster programme started for this age group, the health ministry spokesman has said.

Wojciech Andrusiewicz told a press conference on Friday that over 4,000 teenagers in this age group have already been registered for booster vaccination. Registrations started on Friday.

According to him, in the broader group of 12-17 year-olds, over a million people have received the first dose of the vaccine and in the case of children aged 5-11 the figure is 400,000.

“Also in the 16-17 year-olds group we now have 25,000 registrations and about 7,000 vaccinations,” Andrusiewicz said

“It is particularly important to ensure the safe return of children to schools at the end of February and a safe winter break,” Andrusiewicz added.

Polish school children have been taking turns, depending on the province they live in, to take two-week winter holidays. The education minister has recently ordered schools to close and switch to remote learning due to increased infections. Children are to return to schools on February 28.
