A strong spontaneous rock mass shock occurred on Thursday night in the Lubin copper mine owned by KGHM Polska Miedź. Nine miners found themselves in the danger zone; five were slightly injured.

The quake at the Lubin mining facility took place on Thursday at 22.37 CET, the spokesperson for KGHM Polska Sylwia Jurgiel said.
She added that the shock was characterised as having a strength of “seven” on the mining scale. There were nine miners in the danger area, they were immediately pulled out.
She added that five of them had been slightly injured; they went to the hospital for examination.
According to a report conducted by the Higher Mining Bureau (WUG), since the beginning of the year there have been 13 fatal accidents involving miners. The most common cause of fatal accidents in mining operations are rock bursts.
