Storms and heavy rainfalls expected across Poland

Storms with heavy rainfalls, strong wind and even hailstorms can be expected this week in Poland. As much as 50 litres of water per square metre may fall in some places, Grzegorz Walijewski, weather forecast and spokesman for the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) said.

According to the IMGW, colliding masses of tropical and arctic-sea air from the northwest will reach Poland in the coming days. They will contribute to the formation of dangerous atmospheric phenomena, including storms, during which heavy rainfall and even hail will occur.

During the night from Monday to Tuesday, storms from the west of Poland will move slightly to the east. Rainfall up to 30 millimetres and winds up to 70 kilometres per hour are to be expected. However, the majority of Poland can expect a clear tropical night, with thermometers showing from 16 to 21 degrees Celsius at dawn.

On Wednesday, in the western parts of the country’s thermometers will read 17 to 25 degrees Celsius at the warmest moment of the day. In the eastern half of the country temperatures will remain high, ranging from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius.

Thursday is expected to bring moderate rainfall and in the east and south-east thunderstorms. It should also mark the end of tropical heats for the majority of the country. At the seaside and in the west thermometers will show a temperature ranging from 16 to 18 degrees Celsius at the hottest moment of the day. Temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius will be recorded only in Podkarpacie and the Lubelskie regions.
