The Polish government plans to carry out 20 million Covid-19 vaccinations by the end of Q2, a significant boost from the current number of inoculations standing at 6 million, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Morawiecki recalled the government’s pledge made at the beginning of the year to carry out six million vaccinations by the end of March.

“And today, just before the end of the first quarter, we had the six millionth vaccination,” Morawiecki said.

“By the end of August we want to inoculate all people that want to receive the jab,” the prime minister added.

Michał Dworczyk, head of the Prime Minister’s Office, said the government will launch vaccinations at workplaces in the second quarter of 2021. Vaccination points will also be organised in pharmacies, outpatients’ clinics and drive-thru points, he added.

Dworczyk also said vaccinations for all interested citizens may be launched in May.

According to him, in April, Poland expects to receive between 5 and 7 million vaccines.

Dworczyk added that the government was not planning to offer citizens the possibility to choose a particular vaccine brand, except for senior citizens and people with chronic illnesses.

The two groups have been given only mRNA vaccines, produced by the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer in collaboration with its German partner BioNTech, and by the US biotech company Moderna.

Poland also uses a vaccine produced by the Anglo-Swedish firm AstraZeneca.

“Each of the vaccines is safe and efficient, that’s why we have adopted such a model,” Dworczyk said.

According to data posted on the official government website, gov.pl, 2,002,394 Poles have already received both doses of the vaccine.
