Identified only as Zosia, the girl was one of 66,000 entrants from across the globe that submitted drawings of their dream cuddly toy.

Magdalena Betin of IKEA Retail Polska said: “we are extremely happy that the creative project of 7-year-old Zosia from Poland was among the winning works. Certainly, Sadzek will win the hearts of many children and promises to become a great play companion.”  Press materials

Closing in November, entries were then collected and judged by an expert panel assembled by the Swedish homeware giant. Tasked with picking five winners, the jurors announced the results on Tuesday with Zosia’s entry, a fried egg called Sadzek, being one of those singled out for production.

Running since 2015, the annually held SAGOSKATT competition was created with the specific purpose of enabling kids to design toys for other children. Forming part of IKEA’s “Let’s Play For Change” campaign, the initiative encourages “more play” and seeks to promote the role of recreation in a child’s happiness and development.Press materials

“The concept of children creating for children is something that we at IKEA are extremely proud of,” continued Betin. “The infinite layers of creativity dormant in kids is truly impressive. Every year we get an unimaginable amount of original, fun and simply cool works – if only we could turn them all into toys!”

“A hundred percent of the turnover from SAGOSKATT is donated to local children’s charities working with children’s rights to play and develop,” say IKEA. “Essentially, kids are helping kids.”

“When choosing the winning designs,” says Betin, “we took into account many important criteria, for example, the uniqueness, colour and expressiveness of the drawing that had been submitted, as well as the possibility of transforming it into a mass-produced and, above all, child-safe plush toy.”

Although Zosia is the latest Pole to see her dreams turned into reality by IKEA, she is by no means the first. In 2017 a 9-year-old called Hubert saw his Spider inducted into the SAGOSKATT series, whilst the following year an 8-year-old Warsaw girl named Natalia was widely praised for imagining a spotted seal hiding a small fish in his pouch.
