Czech Republic to lift blanket inspections on Polish beef?

The Czech agriculture minister said on Monday his country would lift blanket checks on Polish beef imports by March 25 if certain conditions were met.

The Czech Republic’s Miroslav Toman was speaking after a meeting on Monday in Brussels with his Polish counterpart, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, and with EU Health and Food Safety Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis.

Toman said that if controls in Polish slaughterhouses are finished by March 25 and Poland delivers an official list of safety measures, as promised at Monday’s meeting by the Polish agriculture minister, then the Czech Republic will discard its checks.

The Czech authorities introduced lab tests on all beef imports from Poland after salmonella was last month discovered in one batch.
