Mateusz Morawiecki: Poland is ready to strengthen its strategic alliance with the US

Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told the PAP news agency on Sunday that Poland wants to strengthen its strategic alliance with the US on military security and build a strategic alliance on energy security, but that this has to be justified financially.

Commenting on plans to strengthen a strategic alliance with the US, Morawiecki, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said that “everything has to be worth it for us and be financially justified.”

“We are no longer a country that behaves like a notary when signing agreements,” he added.

He also spoke about plans to achieve energy independence. “In the next five years we want Poland to achieve full energy independence,” he said.

He added he believes that “in the next 5-10 years, Poland may become a regional distribution centre for gas from outside Russia.”
