Poland will pull out all the stops to ensure world leaders are secure at a July NATO summit in Warsaw, Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz has said.

“We will have the most important leaders in the world in Poland, and their deliberations will determine the security of the world,” Macierewicz said.

“They must be guaranteed absolute peace and absolute security. We will do everything to eliminate any threat from any quarter,” he added.

Macierewicz on Tuesday attended a demonstration by the special branch of Poland’s military police, which performed drills at the National Stadium in Warsaw.

The stadium will be the main venue of the NATO summit, which is to take place 8-9 July, bringing together some 2,500 delegates, including heads of state and government, EU and United Nations leaders.

The Polish authorities are to strengthen the country’s air defences during the military alliance’s summit, while flights in certain zones will be restricted or prohibited.

Polish officials have asked NATO headquarters to supply AWACS surveillance planes to monitor the country’s air space during the meeting.
