Key role for Pole in European research agency

An internationally renowned Polish academic, Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk, has joined the scientific board of the European Research Council (ERC), an agency that finances pioneering research across the European Union.

Appointed by the European Commission, Prof. Jajszczyk is the only Polish member of the ERC’s 20-member Scientific Council, which oversees the agency’s funding strategies, among other responsibilities.

Established 10 years ago, the ERC had an annual budget of EUR 1.7 billion in 2016.

Jajszczyk is a professor at the AGH University of Science and Technology in the southern city of Kraków.

He joined the ERC’s Scientific Council for a four-year term together with three other academics from other EU countries. The ERC announced the new appointments on Friday.
