Polish PM to open innovation conference, hold talks in Germany

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was on Monday expected to attend the opening of an international research and innovation conference and hold talks in Germany.

The European Forum for Science, Research and Innovation in the eastern German city of Dresden was set to bring together officials and researchers from Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic.

The event, principally scheduled for Tuesday, aims to strengthen cooperation between researchers from the three countries in areas including the environment, health, materials science, and data and information technology, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

While in Dresden, Poland’s Morawiecki was expected to hold bilateral talks with German officials about “topics related to European policy,” the IAR news agency reported, citing Polish government spokesman Piotr Müller.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš; the Speaker of Germany’s Bundestag lower house of parliament, Wolfang Schäuble; and the governor of the German state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, were also expected to attend the opening of the European Forum for Science, Research and Innovation in Dresden on Monday.

Almost 400 companies and institutions in March took part in a Polish-German Economic Forum in Berlin.

Poland’s Enterprise and Technology Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz said at the time that Germany was Poland’s largest business and commercial partner, while Poland was Germany’s seventh-largest partner worldwide.
