US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure Piotr Naimski signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy in Washington DC on Wednesday, the Polish Embassy in the United States has said.
The signing of the document coincides with Polish President Andrzej Duda’s visit to the US.
The Memorandum of Understanding is a concrete step opening a strategic dialogue in the field of energy between Poland and the US, the Polish Embassy in Washington announced on Twitter.
Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchórzewski said in Warsaw on Wednesday that “there is a strong will from the United States to cooperate with Poland in the scope of [Poland’s] nuclear programme.”
Tchórzewski added that Poland is “quite open in this field. I informed the ministers of energy at their meetings that Poland is looking not only for technology, but also for partners.”
He said: “We want a technology along with a partner who would like to participate in up to 49 percent in such a nuclear undertaking, and not [in the construction of] just one power unit, but 6-9 such units, with cooperation extending over 20 years.”
Tchórzewski said: “These talks concern a wider group [of countries], but the United States has taken the greatest interest in this matter.”
