International Middle East conference to be held in Poland

An international summit aiming to promote stability and freedom in the Middle East will be held in Poland in February, Fox News has quoted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as saying.

The TV broadcaster said the summit was another step in a US “pressure campaign against Iran.”

In May last year, US President Donald Trump withdrew his country from the Iran nuclear agreement and in November the US restored previously lifted sanctions on Iran.

Pompeo, who is on a tour of the Middle East, told Fox News that the summit in Poland would focus on Iran’s influence in the region, and would gather leaders from around the world.

Fox News said on its website that the meeting would bring together top officials from “Asia, Africa, the Western Hemisphere, Europe and the Middle East.”

Pompeo was quoted by Fox News as saying: “Countries will all come together to focus on Middle East stability and peace and freedom and security.”

He added that the US wanted to make sure that “Iran is not a destabilising influence.”

The conference will take place on February 13 and 14 .
