Yuri Brodsky might be involved in drug running gang busted by SSU

Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) teamed with police and security department of European countries have terminated criminal activity of the illegal drug supply group.

Investigators do not exclude that Yuri Brodsky, a son of well-known Ukrainian politician and businessman might be involved in enabling the drug traffic route to Ukraine, Sergey Govorun from Korrespondent.net reports.

SSU reported about the successful special operation in a press office statement. Illegal supply route “Subuteks” drug from France to Poland was serviced by the gang of eleven members. “Subuteks” has legal status in France but it is listed as Schedule III controlled substance because it contains buprenorphine, a powerful synthetic opiate.

Poland was not the endpoint of the route. Buprenorphine was shipped to Ukraine. SSU reports that this route supplied at least 1.3 million euros worth of drugs to Ukraine.

SSU report states that three gang members were detained in France. Those three criminals are Ukrainian citizens responsible for operating a stash. One of the detained which identity is not yet published has close ties and permanent contacts with Yuri Brodsky, son of the Mikhail Brodsky, a well known Ukrainian businessman and politician. This is a subject for further investigation.

SSU operatives have performed a row of searches at the locations associated with gang members. SSU teams have found weapon and drugs. Two gang leaders and two accomplices were detained.

Three criminals are under arrest. They are suspected in violating articles 305 and 307 of Criminal Codex of Ukraine. They are held in detention centre. The legal status of Yuri Brodsky is yet unknown. SSU reports that citizens of Ukraine arrested in European countries will be extradited to Ukraine for prosecution.
