Polish current account surplus at EUR 430 mln in December: central bank

In December 2020, Poland’s current account surplus hit EUR 430 mln, according to National Bank of Poland (NBP) figures released on Monday.

Poland recorded a EUR 333 mln surplus in the trade of goods, and a EUR 1.81 bn surplus in services.

It also recorded a EUR 1.44 bn deficit in primary income and a EUR 276 mln deficit in secondary income.

Exports of goods in December grew by 14.8 percent to EUR 19.81 bn and imports increased by 13.6 percent to EUR 19.48 bn.

Exports of goods in 2020 reached EUR 232.44 bn, while imports totalled EUR 220.71 bn.

NBP also announced that in December 2020, some EUR 3.4 bn came to Poland from the EU budget, of which PLN 312.2 mln was registered in the current account (to be used mainly for direct subsidies for farmers).

In the capital account, an inflow of funds to the amount of EUR 3.12 bn was transferred to the European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund.
