Ukraine has requested access to the site of a missile blast in eastern Poland that killed two people on Tuesday, the secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (RBNiO) announced on Wednesday.

The two died near the village of Przewodow in the Lubelskie province on Tuesday afternoon in an incident described by Poland’s president as “an unfortunate accident,” most probably caused by a stray Ukrainian air-defence missile.

On Wednesday morning, military commanders met in Kyiv with the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, an RBNiO press release said.

Oleksiy Danilov, the RBNiO secretary, said Ukraine was in favour of a thorough and joint investigation of the incident.

“We are ready to give our partners evidence we have of a Russian footprint,” Danilov said. “We also expect information from our partners on the basis on which they have drawn the latest conclusions concerning a Ukrainian anti-missile defence rocket.”

In addition, Ukraine requests “urgent access to the site of the explosion for officials of the Ukrainian defence ministry and the Ukrainian border guard,” Danilov said.

He added Kyiv was fully open to a comprehensive examination of the incident and would share conclusions based on “the full set of data possessed.”

“Only Russia and its missile terror are guilty of what happened,” Danilov said. “In connection with that, I remind you that the Central European region can only be secured against Russian missiles by building an effective air shield over the territory of Ukraine.”
