Germany offers Poland aid in airspace monitoring

Germany has offered to help Poland monitor its airspace in the wake of Tuesday’s missile blast in eastern Poland, the German defence ministry’s spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The spokesperson said the aid will involve extended patrols under the Nato Air Policing operation, adding that Germany was ready to start “even from tomorrow, if that’s what Poland wants.”

The additional Air Policing patrols would be carried out by the German Air Force’s Eurofighter jets from bases in Germany.

“The jets will not have to be moved to Poland for the purpose. The patrols can take place from German air bases,” the spokesperson said.
