Polish President Andrzej Duda has appealed for people on the eastern border to remain calm as military activity is increased owing to Tuesday’s missile blast.

Two people died when a missile landed near the village of Przewodow, which lies to close to the Ukrainian border.

The president met on Wednesday Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and ministers responsible for security at the National Security Bureau (BBN). The meeting was scheduled an hour before the meeting of the National Security Council.

“We want to emphasise along with the Prime Minister that the inhabitants of the eastern part of Poland should not be worried about the increased activity of the air force, as well as the police, border guards and the army, especially in the border region. This action was taken intentionally and precisely to strengthen security,” said the president following the meeting at the BBN.

“Our allies are cooperating with us in this regard – so in the near future, US Air Force planes will also be flying in the Polish sky,” he added. “Please remain calm, this is our and Nato’s response to this situation.”
