Poland is prepared for a fresh influx of Ukrainian war refugees in the winter months, the minister for social integration said on Wednesday.
Agnieszka Scigaj said Russia’s massive missile strike on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure on Tuesday had increased the changes of another migration wave from Ukraine to Poland.
Scigaj added that Poland had learnt from the earlier refugee waves how to prepare the necessary infrastructure for new arrivals.
“We are prepared for this, and the possibility is drawing increasingly closer as the war is unpredictable. Until recently there were no such suggestions (of another wave) during talks with Ukrainian politicians, they themselves were sure that nothing like this would happen,” Scigaj said.
In the first weeks of the war hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fled across the Polish border. An estimated 1.4 million Ukrainian refugees are currently residing in Poland.
