Poland has decided to raise the readiness of some of its military forces and other uniformed services on its territory, the government spokesman has said.

Piotr Mueller made the statement after a meeting at the National Security Bureau (BBN) on Tuesday evening.

“In connection with the current developments, we have launched procedures which have been envisaged for such a situation,” Mueller said.

Earlier, he announced that an explosion in south-eastern Poland killed two Polish citizens and added “services have launched an investigation into the circumstances around the event.”

“We have decided to verify whether there are premises to launch procedures envisaged in Article 4 of the North Atlantic treaty,” Mueller also said.

Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty says that “The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.”

Foreign mass media reported that two people died Tuesday afternoon after a missile struck an area where grain was drying in Przewodow, a Polish village near the border with Ukraine.
