Polish PM calls urgent meeting of gov’t national defence committee

Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish prime minister, has called an urgent meeting of the Government Committee for National Defence and Defence Affairs, the government spokesman reported.

The body was established in late 2020 after a government reshuffle. It was first led by ruling Law and Justice leader and the then deputy prime minister Jarosław Kaczyński.

Since his resignation from the government, the committee has been led by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

It is composed of the ministers of justice, internal affairs and foreign affairs as well as the special services coordinator.

A cabinet meeting will be held at 9 p.m., the Government Information Centre announced.
