According to Błaszczak, the ministers also discussed how to foil Russia's plans to cause another wave of migrants escaping Ukraine by means of attacks on critical infrastructure in that country.

The Polish defence minister has expressed satisfaction with the fact that his EU counterparts are in agreement regarding the need to support Ukraine.

“All of us agreed that Ukraine should be supported,” Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said after a meeting with EU defence ministers in Brussels on Tuesday.

Błaszczak added that the meeting, which was attended by Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov, focused on plans to launch the training of Ukrainian soldiers, joint EU purchases of military equipment and the situation in Ukraine.

Having recalled that the main centre of the training mission would be located in Wędrzyn, western Poland, Błaszczak said that the training would be organised “to meet the needs of the Ukrainian side.” He also added that Poland had started to train Ukrainian soldiers before Russia’s invasion.

Referring to the planned joint purchases of military equipment, the minister said that all EU countries urgently needed to replace the equipment they had sent to Ukraine.

“I upheld my position that the joint purchases should not be limited to largest companies from Western Europe… but that the equipment should also be bought from smaller companies located in Central and Eastern Europe,” Błaszczak said.

According to Błaszczak, the ministers also discussed how to foil Russia’s plans to cause another wave of migrants escaping Ukraine by means of attacks on critical infrastructure in that country.
