Thirty two Ukrainian soldiers wounded in their country’s defensive war against Russia have arrived in Poland for treatment, a government official said on Tuesday.

Blazej Pobozy, a deputy interior minister, said the men, some of whom are seriously injured, have been placed in hospitals around the country.

He added that the soldiers were brought to Poland aboard a special medical train on Monday night.

Pobozy said the train, which has been in operation since February, was carrying wounded soldiers for the first time, until now having only transported hospitalised patients and refugees from Ukraine.

“Late yesterday evening a medical train arrived in Poland… Thirty two severely and less seriously wounded soldiers from the Ukrainian armed forces are in Poland and have been safely hospitalised,” Pobozy told the Polsat News broadcaster.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
