EC launches online platform to help Ukraine’s grain exports

The European Commission (EC) on Friday launched a platform to establish business contacts between Ukrainian and EU entrepreneurs, which is intended to help Ukrainian grain exports.

The war-torn country has been unable to export some 22 million tonnes of grain stored in silos due to Russia’s ongoing blockade of Black Sea ports.

“Millions of tonnes of grain are stuck in Ukraine and we need to join forces across sectors and borders to transport them: companies looking for ways to support Ukrainian exports, companies offering transport or storage solutions, and Ukrainian grain traders looking for logistics partners,” EU Transport Commissioner Adina Valean stated.

Russia's invasion blocked millions of tonnes of grain in Ukraine. We need to join forces across sectors and borders to get them moving.

“Our contact platform will help create new partnerships. I look forward to seeing them in action – every tonne of grain counts,” she stressed.

In mid-May, the EC presented an initiative to create the so-called solidarity corridors, which are to allow the export of Ukrainian grain by land using the EU infrastructure and the import of goods needed by Ukraine. The launched internet platform is one of the elements of the implementation of this programme.

'The Ukrainian flag symbolises the most common Ukrainian landscape: a yellow field of grain under a blue sky.

It is atrocious to see that deliberately Putin is blocking the wheat supply of the world.'
