
The longest and bloodiest battle of the Ukraine war so far – the siege of the Azovstal steelworks – had come to an end along with the evacuation of the defenders, who were seen by eyewitnesses brought to Novoazovsk – a city controlled by Russian-backed separatists. Earlier, Michał Dworczyk, head of the Polish Prime Minister’s Office, said, following talks with Iryna Vereshchuk in Kyiv, that Poland would roll out support programmes for women soldiers freed from Russian captivity and children who have lost their parents to the war in Ukraine.

A series of explosions struck the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Monday.
There was no word on casualties following the explosions, which occurred just before 1 a.m. Some reports said about eight to 10 blasts occurred in quick succession.
