Polish PM urges global effort in Ukraine reconstruction

Rebuilding Ukraine from war damage must be a global endeavor, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said before the start of the International Donors’ Conference for Ukraine in Warsaw.

The goal of Thursday’s conference, co-organised by Poland and Sweden, is to collect funds for humanitarian support for Ukraine. A previous fundraiser in April also in Warsaw collected over EUR 10 billion for Ukraine.

“Rebuilding Ukraine from the war damage is a huge effort in which we want to involve the whole world,” Morawiecki wrote on Facebook. “Where Putin’s troops leave death and destruction, Ukrainian cities will once again be bustling with life,” he went on.

“Together with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Council Charles Michel, the prime ministers of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, Sweden Magdalena Andersson and Finland Sanna Marin, we will talk about how the international community – not only at the state level, but above all of societies, NGOs and private entities – can help this effort, financially and logistically,” Morawiecki wrote.
