Close to 1,400 foreign doctors, including around 700 from Ukraine, have started working in Poland, benefiting from simplified procedures, the health minister has said.

Adam Niedzielski told a press conference in Wrocław that, around a year ago, Poland simplified employment procedures for foreign medical staff during the pandemic and that recently these procedures were made even simpler for Ukraine war refugees.

“According to the latest data, we have nearly 1,400 doctors from outside Poland, of whom over 700 are from Ukraine,” he said.

Niedzielski added that foreign medical professionals support the Polish health system and the country is ready to accept even more doctors from Ukraine.

“We are open, we have a website in Ukrainian, we also sent text messages, we invite all doctors from Ukraine to quickly obtain a permit or license to practice, issued by the minister,” he said.

The spokesperson for the health ministry, Wojciech Andrusiewicz, added that since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, more than 60 work permits had been issued for doctors from Ukraine.

Over 2.5 million refugees have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border since the Russian invasion, and around 2,000 are receiving hospital treatment in Poland, according to officials.
