“We will help you rebuild your cities,” EP President says in Ukraine

Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, pledged the EU’s support for Ukraine, including helping to rebuild once the war ends.

During a press conference in Kyiv, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, told Robert Stefanchuk, the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada, a unicameral Ukrainian parliament, that the European Union is ready to support the country’s EU aspirations. She also said that the European community will assist Ukraine further once the Russian invasion comes to an end.

We will help you rebuild your cities and your towns ,” she pledged.

Madame President said that the EU is ready to provide further and increasing financial, military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and that the determination of the Ukrainian people to defend their homeland against Russian aggression has inspired the entire World.

“Please believe me when I say that the European Parliament, the European Union and the people of Europe stand with Ukraine. That is why I am here today because we stand with you,” said President Metsola, addressing Chairman Stefanchuk.

The press conference was a follow-up to a meeting during which Metsola and Stefanchuk discussed continuing international sanctions on Russia, humanitarian and military aid for Ukraine and procedures for EU accession.

President Metsola is one of the few European leaders who dared to visit the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv during the ongoing Russian invasion. Previously, the other European politicians to have done so, were the Polish PM Morawiecki and Deputy PM Kaczyński, Czech PM Fiala, and Slovenian PM Janša, who met in Kyiv on March 15.
