President Andrzej Duda praised the courage of Polish troops at a Friday meeting with soldiers from the 18th Mechanised Division in Rzeszow-Jasionka, south-eastern Poland.

He also said that he had heard many cordial and warm words about Polish soldiers from the US President, Joe Biden, who is currently visiting Poland.

“(President Biden) and secretary (Antony) Blinken said that the Polish soldier was a proven ally, a proven comrade-in-arms and a reliable partner,” Duda added.

“The world today is looking with admiration at the courage and heroism of our neighbours from Ukraine, but I have no doubts that our soldiers can fight in the same way. If it were necessary to defend the homeland, they would fight fiercely until victory, as they did many times, as they fought in defence of others, on missions outside our country,” the Polish president said.

He also thanked the soldiers of the 18th Mechanised Division for their cooperation with American soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division. As he said they support Nato’s eastern flank and guarantee security.

The president thanked Polish soldiers for their service on the Polish-Belarusian border, where, he said, “a hybrid migration attack” was taking place, but “fortunately has decreased in its intensity.”

He also noted the recently signed law on Homeland Defence which reforms financing of the Polish army.

“Today we have a new solution, now entering into force. I believe that it will take us into a completely new reality of the security of the Republic of Poland and the standards of defending the Republic of Poland,” Duda said.
