The Polish Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk said that Poland is able to provide food for 2 million Ukrainian refugees. He pointed out that it would not disrupt Poland’s food safety.
“We can feel safe about our food resources. Poland is self-sufficient, we even have a surplus in food trade”, Minister Henryk Kowalczyk said on Polish Radio.
In 2021 Poland’s food export reached nearly EUR 40 bn and there is a huge safety margin, he added.
“Even if there are 2 million Ukrainian refugees coming to Poland, we are able to provide food to them”, the Minister said.
According to the Polish Border Guards, about 2.15 million Ukrainians came to Poland as of February 24, when the Russian invasion started. Most of them decided to stay in Poland but thousands have moved to other EU countries. On Tuesday, 16,600 refugees crossed the border from Ukraine to Poland.
