US Vice President visits Poland

US Vice President Kamala Harris arrived in Warsaw on Wednesday evening, on her first official visit to Poland. She is expected to hold talks with President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, among others, as well as visit Polish and American soldiers.

The American vice-president was welcomed by US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski and the head of the International Policy Office of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Jakub Kumoch, among others.

I am en route to Warsaw, Poland and later this week to Bucharest, Romania. This trip comes at an important moment as the United States continues to demonstrate unity with our NATO Allies and provide support to the people of Ukraine in response to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The official visit of President Joe Biden’s deputy will begin on Thursday morning. Kamala Harris will be welcomed at the Prime Minister’s Office by PM Mateusz Morawiecki, after which the two will go for a one-on-one meeting, followed by a delegation meeting.

According to the press service of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the main topic of the Prime Minister’s conversation with the Vice President is expected to be further coordination of the international community’s response to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, in particular strengthening comprehensive assistance to Ukraine.

Later on the US Vice President is scheduled to meet President Andrzej Duda at the Belvedere Palace. The two officials are supposed to speak about NATO unity in the face of Russian aggression, aid to Ukraine and the issue of a possible transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets. A press conference between Andrzej Duda and Kamala Harris is scheduled for 12.20 CET.

On Thursday, The US Vice-President is also scheduled to meet with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is arriving in Warsaw. Other points of the visit include a meeting with the staff of the US embassy in Warsaw and the relocated embassy in Kyiv.

On Friday, Kamala Harris will visit Polish and American troops, then fly to Bucharest, Romania, where she will hold talks with the country’s president Klaus Iohannis and meet with American diplomats.
