First of all the Senator mentioned the sanctions that US President Joe Biden signed into law soon after the Russian leader recognised the so-called “republics”. “The President immediately issued an executive order to say to US businesses, don’t do business in that part of Ukraine,” the politician stressed.

She added that the US is “also continuing to provide equipment and weapons to Ukraine, to continue to provide support and to address the disinformation that’s coming out of Russia. What’s happening is that Vladimir Putin is lying about what’s happening in the Donbas Region, about what happened and why he’s sending his troops into Ukraine.”

Later on, the Senator was asked What additional sanctions could be expected and how severe would they be in days to come to make a difference. She said that additional sanctions are part of an ongoing discussion taking into account sanctioning Russian banks and holding the Russian leader accountable.

Russia can not enter a NATO country

The US politician also emphasised the close ties between Warsaw and the US. “We met not just with President Duda, but we also met with your Defense Minister, and what we talked about is the importance of the American polish relationship and the importance of being NATO allies,” Ms Shaheen stated adding that Putin cannot come across the borders of NATO.

At the end of the nterview the senator was asked What does she think of “the role of Poland in the conflict currently taking place, considering that Poland always stands on the side of Ukrainian sovereignty.

“I think Poland’s support is very important. We appreciate the number of refugees from Ukraine who are being hosted in Poland right now. We appreciate the support that Poland is providing to Ukraine because we think it sends a message to Putin. Those of us who share the same values, who believe in democracy, who believe that people should be able to determine their own future, who have opportunities because of those democracies. That’s what we want to show to Vladimir Putin, that’s what we want to show to the Ukrainian people and that’s what we want to show to the world,” the Senator said.
