Security Council meeting on Donbas may have been recorded earlier

The meeting of the Russian Security Council, which shows its members persuading President Vladimir Putin to recognise the independence of the “people’s republics” in Donbas, Ukraine, could have been recorded in advance. According to “Meduza”, a Russian and English-speaking news website, this is indicated by the shortcuts and editing of the recording.

Proof that the recording was done earlier

The website noticed that in the speech of the head of the Federation Council head (upper house of the Russian parliament), Valentina Matviyenko, there are traces of editing. This is indicated – according to Medusa – by a sudden change in intonation and frames. Medusa observed similar editing during Putin’s speech, in another part of the video.

Journalists also point out that the prosecutor general, Igor Krasnov did not speak. Medusa suspects that the Prosecutor General may have performed after the Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin. However, he was not shown, even though the recording still leaves the moment when Mr Krasnov leaves the stand. Journalists ask whether the Prosecutor General could have been the only member of the Security Council who opposed the recognition of the independence of the “people’s republics”.

Another argument in favor of the thesis about the earlier preparation of the recording is the time visible on the watches of the participants of the conference. The watch of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu displayed on the recording shows the time between 12.50 am and 1.40 pm, local time. On the other hand, the watch of Moscow Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, shows 12.10 am.

The shortcuts and editing could be proof that the conference was recorded five hours before it was broadcasted publicly. The Security Council was able to discuss the separatist leaders’ appeals to recognise their independence before the appeals appeared on television, concludes Meduza.
