Poland’s Supreme Audit OFfice (NIK) has imposed a fine of PLN 3,000 (EUR 630) on Elzbieta WItek, the speaker of the lower house of parliament, for failing to appear after a summons was issued, a NIK spokesperson told PAP on Monday.
This was the second time Witek has been fined PLN 3,000 for failing to report after being summoned by NIK on January 19. She is appealing against the penalty.
NIK wants to speak to her as a witness as part of an investigation by its Szczecin office into a programme to make face-masks available to Poles as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The office is investigating allegations that Witek lobbied on behalf of a private firm to provide the masks.
Lukasz Pawelski, a NIK spokesperson, said a third summons had been issued for Witek to appear on February 25.
