Nearly all of the US paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division have landed in Poland, a spokesperson for the United States European Command (EUCOM) has told PAP.
“Around 4,600 soldiers have arrived so far,” Scott Ghiringhelli said on Thursday in response to a question from PAP.
Their deployment comes at a time of heightened tensions between East and West owing to fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Over the past two weeks, the Pentagon has decided to send to Poland a total of around 4,700 additional soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, to bolster Nato’s eastern flank in response to Russia’s troop build-up along Ukraine’s borders.
