Calling for balance in the dialogue between the EU and Poland pleases: Deputy FM

“We are pleased with the voice of reason calling for a partnership balance in the dialogue between Poland and the EU institutions, expressed by the Prime Minister of Saxony,” the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk wrote on Twitter.

Szynkowski vel Sęk assessed the statement of the Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, who, in an interview with the DPA agency released on Monday, stressed that “finding the right measure” in the continuing disputes between the EU and Poland and Hungary over the rule of law is like “balancing on the rope”. At the same time, he warned against attempts to increase pressure on both of these countries.

“Of course, people in Poland and Hungary who want a liberal rule of law need broad support. It is also right that we conduct a dialogue on the state of the rule of law in the EU. The Union is a community of values and a union of sovereign states and nations. Many questions can only be answered by citizens of individual member states,” Kretschmer stated.

“The tightening of the language and the mutual accusations will, as a result, strengthen the conflict. We must stick to clear rules. Where European law is violated, there are procedures. Besides, we should refrain from educational attempts” Kretschmer assessed.
