There will be further increase in salaries in health care: PM

“The increase of salaries in health care has accelerated in recent years and will be significantly higher in the following years, due to the rise in expenditure on health care,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday.

Warning strikes are taking place in hospitals throughout Poland. The National Board of the Polish National Trade Union of Nurses and Midwives (OZZPiP) announced that about 40 hospitals will participate.

OZZPiP explains that the main reason for the strike action and protests is the bill, currently processed in the Sejm and Senate, on the method for determining the lowest base salary of some employees in health care which, according to the union, does not guarantee stable growth of the base salaries of nurses and midwives.

The prime minister encouraged the protesters to talk to representatives of the Ministry of Health. “There is a specific and measurable plan for increasing salaries in the health service. This increase in salaries has accelerated in recent years and in subsequent years, also due to the rise in expenditure on health care, it will be significantly higher,” Mr. Morawiecki said.

“As part of the Polish Deal, it is planned to raise expenditure on health care to 6 percent of GDP within two years, and to 7 percent of GDP within 6 years. This is a great financial effort for the state budget and Poles to improve the quality of healthcare ” the Prime Minister indicated.

He added that one of the effects of the improvement in health care will be the lifting of limits on visits to medical specialists and increased availability of such visits. The head of government pointed out that in recent years the interest in health care worker positions has increased.
